McKinney Gets Off Scot Free

In what can only be described as a travesty of justice, a Grand Jury refused to indict Rep. Cynthia McKinney for stricking a Capital police officer. This is just another case of members of Congress being treated differently the us commoners.

To add insult to injury:

“Members of Congress are fortunate to have the protection and the service of one of the finest police forces in the country,” U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Wainstein said in a one-page statement issued yesterday after the decision.

“We ask the U.S. Capitol Police to protect our Capitol and to do so in a way that minimizes disruption and makes all feel welcome,” he said, calling the grand jury investigation “extensive and thorough.”

Ken, Officer Paul McKenna was doing his job in stopping someone who he didn’t recognize, was breaking the security cordon, and was not wearing her Congressional pin. She was the one who refused a lawful command to stop multiple times, and struck a police officer in the course of preforming his job. Ever heard of impersonators? Have you ever walked down the street and said “hey, that looks like Fred! Oh, wait, my mistake.”?

This sets a terrible precedent. The Captial Police have just had their ability to do their jobs reduced when dealing with Congress Critters.

Great job, Ken. Especially since she admitted the crime.

The Smoking Gun has a copy of the police report.

No idea. Cannot release grand jury testimony, supposedly.
